Whitfield, British Astronomical Association, undated [1942] and 29 September 1942, thanking Comrie for the gift of his 4-figure tables and discussing three methods for naked eye observation to determine latitude at sea: 1) the interval between sunrise and sunset; 2) the time taken for the Sun to rise or set; and 3) the time at which two stars are vertical to or horizontal to the horizon.
