Content and context

An undated photostat of a letter from James H. Maskelyne to his uncle, Nevil Maskelyne, 16 July 1774, which the latter received while at Mount Schiehallion in Perthshire. The letter discusses the settlement of the ownership of the Basset Down estate, about which there appears to have been a dispute between Nevil Maskelyne and his brother, Edmund. James Maskelyne has visited Basset Down and informs his uncle of the results of his visit.
