Photostats of three letters from Edmond Halley, arranged and edited by E.F. MacPike, and dated Chicago, 1934.

1. An undated draft of a letter from Halley to Sir Isaac Newton of 22 May 1686, acknowledging the receipt of part of the manuscript of Newton's 'Principia'.

2. Halley to Dr John Wallis, Oxford, 25 June 1687, referring to the imminent publication of the 'Principia' and stating 'yet ten days more, by which time it will compleat'.

3. An undated letter from Halley to King James II [July 1687], consisting largely of an essay on the tides. The letter was sent with a copy of the 'Principia'.

The three letters were reproduced from the following originals respectively: the Royal Society Guard-Book/Letter Book H.3.44; an original manuscript bequeathed by Dr J.L.W. Glaisher to Trinity College Library, Cambridge; and MS.5.38, Cambridge University Library.
