An album containing 42 mounted black and white prints and 7 watercolour paintings, most measuring approximately 195 x 150 mm. The prints have captions and scenes painted in watercolour around the borders of the photographs. The album also contains a decorated frontispiece with a watercolour portrait of the Prime Minister of New Zealand and a message from him to the 'School children of the United Kingdom', which runs thus:

'In presenting this album for competition among the schools of the United Kingdom, it is hoped that it will serve as a means of drawing still closer together the Children of our Great Empire and also help to make those at home better acquainted with the attractions of Britain's most distant Dominion.

Proud of our British Origin and Traditions we feel that New Zealand will fully justify the title bestowed upon her as the Brighter Britain of the South.

[signed] J.G. Coates Prime Minister Dominion of New Zealand'.

Joseph Gordon Coates (1878-1943) occupied a number of Ministerial positions in the New Zealand Government up until 1942. He was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1925-1928.

Presented to the Royal Colonial Institute 'for competition among schools of the United Kingdom'.
