Content and context

A collection of loosely mounted, uncaptioned prints measuring approximately 185 x 115 mm, showing scenes in the Blue Mountains. Two of the prints are stamped in relief on one corner 'C. Bayliss, Photo. Sydney' and it is reasonable to assume, given the similar subject matter and format, that the other two photographs were also taken by him.

1 [The Three Sisters, Katoomba]. 183 x 114 mm. Print stamped with photographer's name. A view on the cliff edge looking towards the three outcrops of rock, which tower above the densely wooded Jamieson Valley.
Good condition, apart from one bend..
2 [Fairy Dell Waterfall, Mount Victoria]. 110 x 183 mm. Print stamped with photographer's name. A view of the waterfall from the pool below, with trees on either side. Mount Victoria, 77 miles from Sydney, is the principal starting point for the Jenolan Caves.
Fair condition, some fading, and one bend in print..
3 [Victoria Pass Area ?]. 103 x 182 mm. A view showing a woodland scene with a stream running towards the camera. In the foreground is a small man-made weir. A pencilled note on the reverse states 'Gardens'.
Good condition..
4 [Govett's Leap Area ?]. 186 x 118 mm. A view looking along a cliff edge to the densely wooded valley below. With a man sitting in the foreground. On the reverse of the print is W. Bullard's stamp, a stationer and bookseller of 342 George Street, Sydney (a few doors away from Bayliss' studio at 348 George Street).
Fair condition, some fading and bends on print..
