2 Post Office, Sydney comp. 1887. 280 x 230 mm. A view of the unfinished building from George Street. The fenced-off land to the left, along which the building extends, was later to become Martin Place. This monumental building, which took over 20 years to complete, was designed by James Barnet. Work started in 1866. The tower, not yet built in this photograph, was completed in 1887.
Good condition, some slight yellowing..
circa 1875
3 Natural History Museum [Sydney]. 285 x 230 mm. A three quarter front view of the bulky sandstone building resting on a stylobate twenty feet high, and rising from that, forty foot Corinthian piers with carving at the top. The building was finished in 1864 to James Barnet's design and part of the old museum can be seen behind the new building. The museum is at the junction of Park Street and College Street.
Good condition..

Built in Gothic style, the buildings were designed by Edmund Blacket and started in 1854. The word 'unfinished' in the caption is unclear, or may refer to another part of the University. These particular buildings were completed around 1860.

The farm proved a failure but the garden continued and after 1796 was retained as Government property.
