H.B. Ballard was a commercial photographer. In 1886 he was based at Singleton, New South Wales.
An album consisting of mounted prints of various sizes, with printed title page and key to photographs. It was presumably created for the purpose of publicity, with the last page of the album given over to a photograph of John Wyndham, together with a short printed history of his vineyard at Dalwood. This was founded by his father, George Wyndham, who emigrated from Wiltshire in 1827. Having previously studied viticultural methods in Europe, he set up an experimental vineyard of 6 acres at Dalwood. He expanded in size in 1853 and John Wyndham took over the 300 acre estate in 1857 and continued the expansion. The Hunter Valley, in which Dalwood is situated, lies about 140 miles north of Sydney and has always been considered one of Australia's finest wine growing areas.
Presented by John Wyndham in November 1886.
