Farming opportunities in Mackay, Queensland

A collection of loose photographs (mainly duplicates) measuring approximately 155 x 110 mm, and probably by P T Griffin. Consisting of thirteen different photographs and a mimeographed booklet concerning a cooperative dairy-farming scheme a few miles west of Mackay. The author of the booklet, having bought a tract of land, is attempting to attract investors from England who will go out to Australia and build up the area's productive capacity. A large part of the booklet is devoted to extolling the virtues of this part of Queensland, while other sections offer an economic breakdown of outgoings and returns over a period of five years. At the end are appended various letters and press cuttings supporting the scheme. The photographs were intended for potential investors. 'Photographs taken round about the district, showing what life there is like, together with maps, and other details, will be available at any interview.' But what ultimately became of the idea is unknown; the photographs and documents were found discarded in the strong-room of the Royal Commonwealth Society.
