Fig tree and native vine on the Logan River. 205 x 150 mm. The vine curls up the trunk of this 75 ft fig tree, set in a sugar cane plantation, while at the base of the tree stand four figures, with three more figures at various points on the tree itself. The vine appears to be well over a foot in diameter. |

Raff's sugar plantation, Morayfield. 205 x 150 mm. View showing sugar plantation on right and sheds, still in the process of being built, on the left, with the river in the background. The picture has been taken from the roof of one of the sheds (which can be seen at bottom of picture), and this gives an aerial sense of perspective. The date of this picture is at the height of the expansion of the sugar industry in Queensland, sugar being first manufactured near the Hastings River in 1823. |

Bridging the Caboolture. 205 x 150 mm. The picture shows the early stages of building a wooden bridge with the main struts and the larger horizontal supports in place. With two figures on the bridge, and three lying on the grass in the foreground. |

Hustin's Ferry, Logan River. 390 x 133 mm. A panoramic view of a curve in the river taken from a garden by the riverside, with the ferry carrying a horse and wagon in the middle distance. The signs of ground clearing, and the fairly untrained nature of the garden, would make it seem probable that this was an area newly settled in 1873. |

Brisbane from the Bowen Terrace. 390 x 133 mm. A panoramic view looking over a curve in the river, showing mainly residential houses. There is some evidence of industrial growth with two factories visible, and merchant ships moored along the river on the farther bank. The Parliament House can be seen, left of centre, in the distance. |
