Frederick S. Armbrister was a commercial photographer in Nassau, Bahamas. He was active in 1905 and in the 1920s.
Captioned, mounted print. The photograph is accompanied by a newspaper cutting from the 'Nassau Guardian' of May 27 1905 which contains a detailed report of the event. The picture shows the unveiled statue in Rawson Square with crowds of spectators, many carrying umbrellas, in the foreground. The balcony of the government building behind is also crowded and is decked with flags. The statue, 'of the finest Carrara marble' shows Queen Victoria seated in robes of state and carrying the orb and sceptre. The sculptor was John Adams-Acton, 8 Langford Place, London. Sir William Grey-Wilson, who has not been identified in this photograph, was Governor of the Bahamas from 1904-12, having previously been Governor of St. Helena (1887-97) and the Falkland Islands (1897-1904). Photograph by F.S. Armbrister of Nassau.
