RCS/Y3069B contains:
1 Eagle Pass Landing. 245 x 192 mm. A view showing the settlement of Eagle Pass Landing, a gathering of wooden cabins and tents on the shores of Lake Shuswap. Here were the homes of the railway navvies who completed the last miles of track from the western end of the line, up the Gold Range towards the meeting place of Craigellachie. Eagle Pass landing later became the town of Sicamous. 1885
2 Glen, Eagle Pass Waggon Road. 245 x 191 mm. A view looking along an unsurfaced tote-road with a horse and cart on the track. Partially cleared forest land lies on either side and steeply wooded hills rise in the distance. Neither the railway nor the Eagle River is visible in this photograph. 1885
3 Wright and Leamys' R.R. Camp, Eagle Pass. 245 x 191 mm. A view showing a railroad construction workers' camp with men standing beside loaded waggons and tents pitched on the cleared land in front of the forest. Wright and Leamys have not been identified or traced. 1885
4 Hatzie Pile Bridge. 245 x 190 mm. A view from the riverbank looking along the railway bridge constructed from timber piles. The exact location has not been identified but this is possibly one of the many bridges crossing the Eagle River between Sicamous and Craigellachie. 1885
5 View near Salmon Arm, Shuswap. 245 x 191 mm. A view showing the railway curving round a newly constructed embankment with felled timber beside the track and forest beyond. Two men can be seen on a railroad trolley at the left of the photograph. Salmon Arm lies at the southernmost corner of Lake Shuswap, about 20 miles south-west of the Sicamous Narrows. 1885
6 Rock Bluff east of Salmon River. 245 x 192 mm. A view showing three men on a railway trolley, with the line curving round a partially blasted-away rock face. Taken at some point along the line where it turns north after Salmon Arm to follow the shore of Lake Shuswap.
Poor condition, some damage to surface of print..
1885
7 Salmon River Gravel cut looking west. 245 x 192 mm. A view showing the line curving downhill along a steep gravel cutting with mountains in the distance. In the foreground railroad workers pose for the photographers in front of a locomotive and flatcars. Exact location unknown, probably taken near Salmon Arm looking towards Granite Peak. 1885
8 Kamloops looking east. 245 x 191 mm. A view looking along the banks of the South Thompson River and showing the town of Kamloops in its infancy. The town itself consists merely of one street of wooden houses along the riverbank, with the railway line itself passing through the main street. Kamloops, which started life as a small trading-post, had a brief boom during the gold-rushes of the 1860s. The arrival of the railway and the decision to make Kamloops a divisional headquarters, assured the town of further prosperity (unlike so many towns along the line, Yale for instance, which after brief periods of hectic growth during the actual construction, relapsed into obscurity and even oblivion once the railway had passed them by). 1885
9 Tunnel No 1 Kamloops Lake. 245 x 193 mm. A view looking along the railway line towards a tunnel blasted through the hillside, with vertical granite cliffs to the right of the line. Exact location unidentified. 1885
10 Black Canyon Tunnel No 2. 245 x 191 mm. A view showing the line entering a tunnel carved through the rocky hillside, with timber and unused rails lying beside the track. The Black Canyon lies on the Fraser River just south of Hellgate on one of the most difficult sections of the line. 1885
11 Saddle Rock Cut. 245 x 191 mm. A view of the line curving between two excavated rock outcrops. Exact location unidentified. 1885
12 Trestle a few miles below Savonas [Ferry]. 241 x 190 mm. A view looking along a wooden trestle bridge which skirts around a large rock outcrop near Savona's Ferry. The line from Port Moody to Savona's Ferry was completed by Onderdonk at the end of July 1885. 1885
13 Nicaragua Bluff. 245 x 191 mm. A view looking along the Fraser River with the steep rocky gorge rising on either side. To the right of the river can be seen the precipitous Cariboo Road, several parts supported on trestles, which follows the Fraser River at this point. 1885
14 View of Fraser River showing tunnels 11, 12 and 13. 245 x 192 mm. A view looking along the Fraser Canyon showing the railway to the left of the river piercing three large granite outcrops. The Cariboo Road is on the other side of the river. 1885
15 Side view of Trestle, Sailor Bar Bluff. 245 x 192 mm. A view looking along the line showing the wooden trestle-work which carried the track round steep granite cliffs beside the Fraser River. Sailor Bar Bluff lies about 15 miles south of Hellgate Rapid. 1885
16 View toward the west near Drynock. 245 x 191 mm. A view showing the Thompson River and hills beyond. Drynock lies about 30 miles north-east of the junction of the Thompson and Fraser Rivers.
Fair condition, apart from some fading in from edges..
1885
17 View down the Thompson River near Drynock. 240 x 190 mm. A view looking along the river with railway embankments following its course at the left of the picture.
Fair condition, some stains on print..
1885
18 Cantilever Bridge across the Fraser River near Lytton. 245 x 192 mm. A view looking down on the steel cantilever bridge supported on stone piles which crosses the Fraser near Lytton. On the far side of the river the track enters a tunnel. The first bridge of its kind in North America, it was designed by the New Yorker C.C. Schneider.
Fair condition, some fading in from edges..
1885
