Content and context

Robert E Holloway (1850-1904) was a photographer active in Newfoundland. According to O'Neill (1975, p. 210), Holloway was always an amateur photographer, being employed as Principal of the Methodist College in St. John's all the time he lived in Newfoundland (1872-1904). His daughter Elsie set up a photographic studio in Henry street, St. John's. Although Holloway's photographs were used on two Newfoundland stamps and a Canadian banknote, he does not appear to have managed a studio.

Contains loose prints, of various sizes but mainly measuring approximately 290 x 135 mm and 200 x 150 mm. All but numbers 31 and 32 are by Holloway, these two are by an unknown photographer.
