| Content and context |
206 x 151 mm. Showing a group of children gathered in a courtyard with painted walls. The caption continues: 'The designs here show the influence of the West. Road signs, motor car numbers, lamp posts, etc. , are being used as motifs, which is to be regretted. They sometimes use touches of oil paint to add their earth colours. There are only a few examples left of this lovely work and culture. 1949'. (the 'western influence' mentioned here is apparent in the photograph in the shape of a painting on the wall of a monacled peanut with top hat and cane - the logo for a western peanut manufacturer). |
