| Content and context |
Showing members of the Latuka Tribe at a death dance, Torit. The caption below the photograph reads: 'The Latuka men made a cut on their right shoulder for every man they have killed and on the left for each woman. Since they have come under British Administration this custom has fallen into disuse. A prision warder at Torit recently had the occasion to shoot several prisoners who were escaping. On the day of the trial he was absent from court, and eventually found in his compound proudly making deep cuts in his shoulder'. |
