Panoramic view of Port Victoria [i.e. Victoria], Mahe, Seychelles, looking south-east,. 624 x 148 mm (three prints joined). View from a neighbouring hillside looking down on Port Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles. The waterfront area is seen in the right hand section. The two left hand portions of the panorama show the landing stage stretching out into the bay. Cerf Island can be seen at the extreme left. A pencilled note on the reverse of the mount reads: 'Taken at low water to show the importance of keeping small pier or carenage open to public (closed by Harb. Regulation '96).'. Fair condition, some fading and yellowing.. |

The coco-de-mer palm in the grounds of Government House. 116 x 163 mm. View showing Sultan Abdullah of Perak standing beneath the coc-de-mer tree in Government House, Port Victoria. Abdullah was Sultan of Perak from 1872 to 1875 when he was deposed by the British for his complicity in the murder of the British Resident James Birch. He spent the years 1875-95 in exile in the Seychelles before being permitted to return to Perak. A note on the reverse of the mount gives details of the life cycle of the coco-de-mer palm. Fair condition, some fading.. |
