Content and context

Donald McLeish was a commercial photographer active in the Middle East and England during the 1920s. He took many views in Egypt in the 1920s.

Loose photographs, measuring approximately 204 x 190 mm, with handwritten captions on their borders (shortened for this catalogue). The prints show scenes, mainly archaeological, in Egypt.

2 Threshing wheat on an Egyptian farm. 241 x 192 mm. A view showing two Egyptians threshing a pile of wheat with ox-drawn wooden machinery. The Great Pyramid stands in the background.

3 View from the Great Pyramid. 241 x 193 mm. A view from the top of the Great Pyramid of Cheops looking south-west towards the second and third pyramids (the Khefren and Menkewre pyramids), with the Libyan desert in the background.
Good condition, apart from slight fading in from edges..
4 The Avenue of Sphinxes at Karnak. 241 x 193 mm. A view looking down on a section of the Avenue of Sphinxes which leads from the Temple of Mut to the Temple of Amenophis II at Karnac. Erected by Rameses II.
