Content and context

An album containing albumen prints of various sizes, by varied photographers including W.L.H. Skeen and Co., Joseph Lawton, and Colombo Apothecaries Company.

This is an important collection showing such subjects as the Colombo-Kandy railway construction; archaeological views of Polonnaruwa and Anaradhapura; tea industry; views of Colombo; Perahera celebrations, Kandy. There are also 11 of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Kandy in 1897.
