5 joined prints measuring in total 1447 x 207 mm. A panoramic view of Ootacamund and the surrounding country from Elk Hill, just above Bombay House. The photograph is taken from a similar viewpoint to Y3022EE. In this view the area of the lake to the east of the Willow Bund has been filled in and the ground taken over by part of the racecourse and tennis courts. This work was undertaken between 1896 and 1899. The town itself has grown considerably in this period between the two photographs, with a great increase in trees (Bombay House in this later view is almost entirely obscured). The recently built Roman Catholic Church can be seen in print 4, with Government House at the extreme right. The Government Office complex is at the extreme left of print 5. |
