151 x 185 mm. Head and shoulders portrait (?rephotographed from a book) of Marcus Moziah Garvey, the black separatist leader and founder of the 'Back to Africa' movement. Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement and Conservation Association (UNIA) in 1914, and the Black Star Shipping Line in 1919. It was in connection with the latter venture that he served a prison sentence in the USA from 1925-27. Photographer unknown. |
