Private A.E. Copeland served in the Signal Section of D Company, 1st/5th Hampshire Regiment.
A transcript of letters from Copeland to his mother, 6 June 1917 - 22 April 1918, 236 pages, describing his service in Agra and Chakrata, U.P; Maymo, Burma; and Poona. The volume is marked 'Volume 5', but nothing is known of the earlier and later volumes, or of the fate of the writer. The transcript was presumably made by Copeland's mother, although the date it was written is not known. The volume includes 101 photographs and 12 postcards of India and Burma, including architectural features, costumes and different racial groups.
Purchased from David Pratt in 1972.
