A newspaper cuttings book originating from New Zealand, containing articles on immigration to New Zealand, 1849 and 1850; letters to newspaper editors, 1852; and articles and letters on the settlement of New Zealand, 1866-1868. There are also a few articles on immigration to Van Diemen's Land, Australia, New Brunswick, California, Natal and Chile. The latter discusses the 1868 South American earthquake. Some of the cuttings are mounted on loose cardboard. Near the back of the book are a few pressed flowers. The volume is accompanied by a descriptive note.
The book was given to Nicholas Chevalier when he was travelling in New Zealand. It was presented to the Royal Colonial Institute by Mrs Chevalier on 20 October 1902.
