A wide range of material concerning different countries in North and South America, notably Canada, Belize and the West Indian islands. A number of the collections are comprised of single items, such as legal documents and paintings.
The collections were received by the R.C.S. from a number of different sources, details of which are given with the relevant collection.

The probate of the will of Susanna Plaisted, 23 August 1771, on a single sheet of vellum, 12¾'' x 12'', including a bequest to the testator's son-in-law William of 'all my land in the Province of Massachusetts Bay'. A probate of the Archbishop's Court, 1789, is attached to the will.

Correspondence regarding the North West Company of Canada. Correspondence between the R.C.S. and the Public Archives of Canada, the Hudson's Bay Company, the British Association for American Studies and Clark, Irwin & Company Ltd regarding documents held by the R.C.S. relating to the North West Company of Canada and individuals connected with the Company. There are also two letters regarding the supply of the publication 'United empire' to the Public Archives of Canada. The letters are accompanied by an undated description of RCMS 249-253, papers relating to the North West Company of Canada which are referred to in the correspondence.

History of the Rudolf family of Nova Scotia. An undated photocopy of a manuscript entitled 'History of my Great-Grandfather, written by himself', comprised of handwritten copies of Rudolf family documents, 13 pages. It begins with the autobiography of Leonard Christopher Rudolf, followed by a list of Rudolf's descendants and a family tree. The manuscript was presumably written by one of the children of L.C. Rudolf's grandson William after 1886, the last date to appear.

Sketch of Montreal in Lower Canada. An account of Montreal in circa 1806 making favourable comparisons with American towns. A note at the end states that the sketch appeared originally in a Boston newspaper and was transcribed into the 'Montreal gazette'.

Grenada estate documents. Two documents, 1801 (3 pages) and 1802 (7 pages), regarding the transfer of land in Grenada from the Vicomte and Vicomtesse de Fleury to Alexander Campbell, Junior. One of the sureties is Alexander Campbell, the elder, presumably the plaintiff in the famous lawsuit Campbell v Hall.

The commission of Major Guise as Justice of the Peace for Kingston, Jamaica, 4 December 1928 (1 page), bearing the signatures of the Governor, Sir Reginald Stubbs, and the Colonial Secretary, A.S. Jelf, and the seal of the colony. There is an accompanying undated photocopy of a biographical entry on Guise, possibly produced when the collection was first catalogued in 1988.

Royal grant of West Indian governorship. A coloured photograph of an illuminated document dated 13 September 1625, 12'' x 8'', granting Sir Thomas Warner the governorship of St Christopher (St Kitts), 'Mevis' (Nevis), Barbados and Montserrat. There is an accompanying photocopy of a typed description of the grant and of the translation given in A. Warner, 'Sir Thomas Warner' (1933), pp. 28-33.

Account of the Longman family. An account of the Longman family from Dorset or Somerset and connected families 'compiled in 1940, with some additions of a later date', 44 pages. A title page lists the families that are covered, several of which had Caribbean connections. There are seven inserted photographs on pages 42 and 43. It is not known how many copies of the account were made.

Independence scroll of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce. A framed scroll prepared on the occasion of Jamaica's independence, 1 August 1962, 22'' x 40½'', paying tribute to 'assets of great worth' in Great Britain's association with Jamaica. The scroll was presented to the U.K. High Commissioner in Jamaica on 28 November 1962.

Jamaica marriage settlement. The document, dated 5 April 1792, deals with the provision to be made for Richard Welch, Junior, and Alice Anne Preston on the occasion of their marriage. It gives particulars of the estate provided in the settlement and its slaves. There is an accompanying letter from Professor Mollie Cottingham to D.H. Simpson, R.C.S. Librarian, 10 January 1970 (6 pages), giving the background to the document and the links between the Cottingham family and the Welch family. Simpson's reply, 19 January 1970, is also included (1 page).

A Christmas card from Barclays Bank (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas), 1952, depicting a view of English Harbour (now called Saint Johns), Antigua, from Great George Fort on Monk's Hill in 1830. Prize decree on 'Los Dos Amigos'. The Exemplification of Decree of the Court of Appeals for Prizes in the case of the ship 'Los Dos Amigos', 25½'' x 22½'', 'extracted by Iltid Nicholl Esq His Majesty's Procurator General'. The decree is engrossed with a conventional sketch of King George III. The seal has been removed.

Document of the Mosquito Nation. A printed parchment form, 11½'' x 11½'', completed in manuscript, appointing Leonard P. Cox as Receiver General to the King of the Mosquito Nation in Central America. The document has been signed by King R.C. Frederic and the three Commissioners of the Mosquito Nation, and has an embossed seal. The parchment is accompanied by the article 'A document of the Mosquito Kingdom' in 'Royal Commonwealth Society library notes', no. 57, September 1961, pp. 1-2, which transcribes the document and outlines the history of the Mosquito Kingdom.

British Honduras slave sale poster. A printed poster of the Provost Marshal's sales, June Grand Court, 11 June 1827, advertising the sale of slaves at the Court House on 25 June 1827. The poster gives the names of the owners and slaves and the cost price, although some of these details have been cut out and removed. On the back of the poster are manuscript details of the sale of a slave at the June Great Court, dated July 1827.

Directions to Calder Bank off Guadeloupe. An account by Calder of his discovery on 30 January 1795 of a sea bank off Guadeloupe, which he named after himself (3 pages). The bank has not been traced, and presumably has an alternative French name. There is an accompanying note on Calder's account, 1975, and correspondence about the collection, 1976-1980, including a map of Guadeloupe and other West Indian islands.
