(former reference: MSS 11)
Creator Alvord, Idress Head, 1873-1962, librarian and historian
Covering Dates 1928
Extent and Medium 4 pages; paper; Manuscript
Content and context

Idress Head Alvord (1873-1962), librarian and historian, was the wife of Professor Clarence Walworth Alvord (1868-1928), a distinguished American historian who undertook to write chapters on the American Revolution for the 'Cambridge history of the British Empire', which remained incomplete at the time of his death on 24 January 1928.

Arthur Percival Newton (1873-1942) was Rhodes Professor of Imperial History at King's College London, 1920-1938, and an editor of the 'Cambridge history of the British Empire'.

A letter regarding the work completed by C.W. Alvord for the 'Cambridge history of the British Empire', apparently one chapter, and the arrangements for preparing it for publication. The introduction to vol. I of the 'Cambridge history' refers to the death of Alvord (p. vi), but does not indicate whether any of his material was used.

The provenance of the collection is unknown.
