Alphonse Legros (1837-1911), painter and sculptor, was born in Dijon. He worked in Paris before moving to London in 1863. He was Professor of Fine Art at Slade School of Art, London, 1875-1892.
Oscar Eckenstein (1859-1921) was a mountaineer.
A print, 8¾" x 12", of an original drawing by Alphonse Legros, 1894, copied by John Freeman Ltd, circa 1960. The print is accompanied by an offprint from 'The Alpine journal', vol. LXV, no. 300 (May 1960), pp. 62-79, of a Library Talk, with additions, given by D.E. Dean, Deputy Librarian of the Royal Commonwealth Society, 3 November 1959. Dean carried out biographical research on Oscar Eckenstein.
The provenance of the collection is unknown.
