Content and context

John Skinner Prout (1806-1876), watercolour painter, was born in Plymouth, the nephew of the painter Samuel Prout (1783-1852). After living for a period in Australia, he settled in Bristol where he mixed with local artists. Prout moved on to London where he became a member of the Institute of Painters in Watercolours and contributed regularly to exhibitions. He died on 29 August 1876 in London.

An undated framed painting, 290 mm x 370 mm.

The provenance of the collection is unknown.
