Charles Edward Jewel Whitting (1900-1973) was the author of 'Hausa and Fulani proverbs' (Lagos, 1940). Mr and Mrs Whitting attended the 25th International Congress of Orientalists in Moscow and visited Soviet Central Asia during August 1960.
