Tymms collection on civil aviation

Title North from near Mojave Point at night, Grand Canyon, Arizona
Reference RCMS 20/2/1/147
Covering Dates 4 Sep. 1918 (The date relates to when the postcard was written.)
Extent and Medium Good condition.
Content and context

140 x 90 mm. A colour postcard written by Tymms and sent to his wife. It is addressed to: "Mrs F. Tymms, 14 Oxford terrace, Hyde Park, London W2, England."

The caption on the postcard reads: "Mojave Point is about four miles from El Tovar. Just opposite Mojave Point the Granite Gorge is deepest. From Mojave to the west, you can se across the river the Tower of Set, Horus Temple, Isis Temple, Cheops Pyramid, Buddha Temple, and on this side Powell Abyss with Copo and Dana Buttes."

Tymms message reads: "4/9/18. I wrote you a letter in an aeroplane 4000 feet up once. This one is written nearly 4000 feet down in the Grand Canyon. I am spending the night down here. Most wonderful sight, and most wonderful ride we ever had. We rode down on mules seven and a half miles in about three hours. There is a permanent camp down here, so it is not quite camping out. Just now the sun is going down and gilding the peaks opposite. It is indescribable. The sun has already set down here. Love F."
