Lucy Clare Latham was born at Higham, Kent, on 17 February 1895. She gained a B.A. with 1st Class Honours in 1926 at London University, and for the next thirteen years taught in teacher training colleges. She was accepted by the Church Missionary Society on a short service agreement for four years on 13 October 1944. The agreement was renewed several times before she retired in 1959. She taught at Buloba, 1944-1952, Mukono, 1952-1953, and Nyakasura Teacher Training College, 1955-1959.
Seventeen manuscript letters from Uganda sent mostly to Miss Diana Hartley, 1950-1959. The letters include the day and month, but not the year that they were written. This has been added when it is indicated by a postmark or internal evidence. The letters are accompanied by a photocopy of an appreciation written on Latham's retirement in 1959.
Presented by Miss Diana Hartley.
