Rodney Carrington Wood (1889-1962) was born on 10 October 1889. He travelled widely, particularly in Africa, farmed at times, and worked as a game warden in Nyasaland, a schoolteacher in Natal and in the employ of the Nyasaland railways. His principal interest was natural history, which is the main subject of his diaries. Wood died in the Seychelles on 27 January 1972.
The diaries were written when Wood was chiefly in Nyasaland and the Seychelles. They include a few inserted sketches and photographs. There is an accompanying set of press cuttings and miscellaneous papers.
Presented by Mr and Mrs G.D. Hayes, May 1975, who were given the diaries by Mrs Westrop.
