Dato Sir Mahmud bin Mat served in the Malayan Civil Service, became Mentri Besar of Pahang in 1948 upon the creation of the Federation of Malaya, and was later first speaker of the Federal Legislative Assembly in 1953.
A description of the role of royalty in Malay life and of agriculture, living conditions, health, recreation and festivals at the beginning of the twentieth century (7 sheets).
