|
Contains loose photographs, taken by the Brisbane Department of Agriculture and Stock to illustrate the industry and countryside of Queensland. Accompanied by a typed checklist dated 8 June 1910, from the Department of Agriculture and Stock, and listing 111 photographs, 47 of which are missing. Captions from the checklist have been copied onto backs of prints in blue crayon, and each print is stamped on reverse 'Department of Agriculture and Stock'.
Originally obtained for the Colonial Visual Instruction Committee by A.H. Fisher for making into lantern slides. Sent to Fisher by the Brisbane Department of Agriculture and Stock.

With numerous passers-by and three crowded motor cars coming along the street towards the camera. The first petrol driven car to be imported into Queensland, a two-cylinder De Dion Bouton, arrived in 1900, and these cars seem to be attracting considerable attention, as novelties, from the pedestrians.

Mount Morgan Goldmine, Rockhampton. 200 x 150 mm. A view from the hill, showing the central portion of the mine complex. 24 miles from Rockhampton, the mine was discovered in 1882 and was returning a profit by 1886. It was also an important copper mine.
