China. 82 x 82 mm. colour glass slides. Reproductions of engravings of people and buildings, probably dating from the nineteenth century. They retain their original numbers. A slip of paper with the collection bears the name of Rev. G.F.C. Dobson. George Francis Clement Dobson was born in 1869 and after taking his degree at Cambridge became a teacher. From 1900 to 1909 he was a missionary as Assistant Master at the CMS Anglo-Chinese School in Shanghai and Acting Principal in 1907, when he presumably acquired the slides. Ordained in 1911, he held curacies and livings in England until 1939.
