Papers of Lord and Lady Pethick-Lawrence

Title Papers from correspondence files, N-W; get-well cards
Reference 3
Covering Dates 1912–1961
Extent and Medium 1 box
Content and context

This class, which originally corresponded to the contents of one archival box, contains papers relating to persons and subjects beginning with the letters from N to W, as follows: Walter Nash (1–11), the National Campaign for the Abolition of Capital Punishment (12–19), the National Library of Scotland (20–38), E. H. Neville (39–40), Evelyn Sharp Nevinson and H. W. Nevinson (41–53), the New York Herald Tribune (54–60), Lord Olivier (61–65), Lord Pethick-Lawrence (66), A. C. Pigou (67), the Political Honours Scrutiny Committee (68–102), the Parliamentary Labour Party, House of Lords (103–104), Eardley Price (105–109), the Privy Council (110–117), Mrs B. H. Qon (118–119), James Rae (120–123), Sir Benegal and Lady Rama Rau (124–126), Gwen Raverat (127–129), the Marquess of Reading (130–131), Elizabeth Robins (132–164), the Royal India, Pakistan, and Ceylon Society (165–172), Maude Royden (173–181), Walter Runciman (182), Sir George and Lady Sansom (183–193), Sir George Schuster (194–222), Sir Giles Gilbert Scott (223), Emmanuel Shinwell (224), Lord and Lady Simon of Wythenshawe (225–245), Sir Frank Soskice (246–247), the Tagore Centenary Celebration Committee (248–264), Lord Thomson (265–269), the United Service Club (270–271), Votes for Women (272), the Beatrice Webb Memorial Fund (273–277), Octavia Wilberforce (278–302), Sir Kingsley Wood (303–327), and Baroness Wootton (328–333).

These items are followed by four 'get-well' cards sent to Lord Pethick-Lawrence during his last illness (334–337).

The contents of the original files appear, for the most part, to have been kept together, but 132–164 are from the same file as 278–302, while 120–123 came from the same file as 1/104 and 1/208–209 (the subject of the file is unclear), and 105–109 came from the same file as 4/194. It is likely that the names or subjects assigned to some items – particularly 66, 103–104, 120–123, and 272 – are not those of the original files.
