| Content and context |
| (Royal Courts of Justice.) Questions have been asked in the Commons by Sir George Broadbridge and [Sir Waldron] Smithers insinuating that parties attended by troops and 'persons ill-disposed to this country' have been held at Folyjon Park, of which Simon Marks is the lessee, causing Marks great distress and unwelcome attention from the press. 'The whole thing is a most discreditable piece of anti-semitism.' Marks believes that the only foreigner who has visited him was Masaryk, the Foreign Secretary of Czechoslovakia, and the only troops a couple of Canadian officers, and there have been no parties at all. David Margesson has assured Marks that he will give a 'very stiff' answer to the questions next week, but Jowitt would like Pethick-Lawrence's advice on delivering a stronger response. |
