Papers of Sir James Ramsay Montagu Butler (1889-1975) historian

Weeden Butler was born on 22 September 1742 and was great grandfather of J R M Butler. He was articled to a solicitor, but decided on a career in the church. He was morning preacher at Charlotte Street Chapel, Pimlico from 1776 until 1814 and was master of a classical school in Chelsea. From 1814 to 1820 he acted as curate to his son George at Gayton. He died at Harrow in 1823.
