| Expresses his appreciation at the fact that HS read his article and wrote to him about it. Replies that he does mean that [Strathmashic] was an accomplice [in the fraud surrounding the writing of The Poems of Ossian by James Macpherson]. Refers to 'Temora', and to the difference between the Gaelic of the narrative parts and that of the lyric parts. Laments that The Guardian has limited the space to be given to his article. Reports that he is [ ] 'on "Lear" now, - a sort of school edition', on which he has 'some interpretations which are new.' |
