Jan Svoboda was the personal secretary of Blazej Vilim, a leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party in exile. He was born in Czechoslovakia [later the Czech Republic] in 1902 and died in London in 1979.
The papers consist mainly of writing on politics and articles from the magazine Perspektivy Socialismu, founded by Blazej Vilim, and also relate to the activities of exiled members of the Czech Social Democratic Party.
Svoboda's papers were given to Churchill College, Cambridge, in October 1979 by Mrs. Simsova, friend of Mirka Vilim.
The papers are owned by Churchill College.

The papers are open for consultation by researchers using Churchill Archives Centre, Churchill College, Cambridge. Churchill Archives Centre is open from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. A prior appointment and two forms of identification are required.
Researchers wishing to publish excerpts from the dissertation must obtain prior permission from the copyright holders and should seek advice from Archives Centre staff.
