The Papers of Neil Kinnock

Title Correspondence
Reference KNNK 1
Covering Dates 1979–2008
Extent and Medium 209 archive boxes
Content and context

NK's official correspondence, as leader of the Labour Party, and also as a European Commissioner and Vice-President of the European Commission, and then as a member of the House of Lords.

The letters in the "Chrono" series (1/5-8) are on a wide range of subjects from European Union matters (such as planning and transport) to letters which reflect NK's personal interests (such as Welsh issues, rugby etc.).

Sections 1/5-8 of the papers contains Neil Kinnock's "Chrono" correspondence from 1995-October 2004. The correspondence was filed in chronological order in lever arch files and appears to be day files, with outward correspondence only. There is some duplication with 1/4.

Up to October 1999, the correspondence was divided into two sections with each file containing a running sequence of all correspondence (which is listed as "Chrono" in the list below) and a separate section (originally at the front of the file) containing letters to ministers, ambassadors and commissioners (now 1/6).

In October 1999 the filing system was changed and the "Chrono" correspondence was divided into Commission/European Union correspondence and Non-Commission correspondence (1/7-8).
