The original photographs which form part of this collection were apparently taken by R. W. A. Ivermee who was commissioned into the newly-formed Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 as a lieutenant. His previous service had been with the R.N.A.S. in seaplanes.
The bulk of the slides in the collection were prepared for a lecture called 'Bombs and Bolos' on the British campaign against the Bolsheviks in North Russia in 1919. These have all been placed in section 1. The other slides include a group showing the surrender of the German Grand Fleet at Scapa Flow and the surrender of the German submarines at Harwich in November 1919. There are also a few slides of British warships (most of which were in the Grand Fleet) and two of the Suez Canal. All these have been placed in section 2.
Churchill College bought these slides in June 1969 from a private source.

Some of Ivermee's negatives were bought by the B.B.C. Library in 1969, but the two collections are not identical.
A copy of this finding aid is available for consultation at Churchill Archives Centre, Cambridge, the National Register of Archives, London and on the Janus website, http://janus.lib.cam.ac.uk/.
In this catalogue quotation marks give the substance of the caption on the original slide. Slight amendments to the wording have sometimes been made and abbreviations have been expanded. When the description is not in quotes there is no title on the slide and an identification has been provided. Whether the description is in quotes or not it may not be entirely accurate. There are also discrepancies in the Russian names caused by differing transliterations from the Cyrillic alphabet. The catalogue was updated by Natalie Adams in June 2005, using information from the original typescript catalogue of the collection (1971).
No negatives exist for some of the slides at Churchill College and there are no slides from some of the negatives. However all the slides have now been copied and prints made.
