8 Tours: Sofia [Bulgaria]. Papers and correspondence, mostly copies of letters by G. W. Rendel [British Minister in Sofia] and of correspondence between Rendel and Lieutenant-Colonel A. Ross [Military Attaché]. Letters from Rendel are to Viscount Halifax [Edward Wood, earlier Lord Irwin, later 1st Earl of Halifax] concerning Lloyd's visit and events that took place in the course of it, and Sir Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen concerning conversation with Numan [?Turkish politician] on a possible settlement between Turkey and Bulgaria. Correspondence between Rendel and Ross on subjects including: intelligence received concerning Bulgaria; national alliances within the Balkans, and Rendel's belief in the threat to Bulgaria from Russia. Also includes memorandum by Ross on policy towards Bulgaria. Other documents comprise: letter from Lloyd to Philip Nichols, Foreign Office; letter from Sir Ronald Storrs to the King of Bulgaria, and itinerary for Lloyd's visit to Sofia.

With correspondents including Duff Cooper [later 1st Viscount Norwich], Douglas Jerrold [of the publishers Eyre and Spottiswoode], and Neville Chamberlain's office.

11 Correspondence: Cyprus. Correspondence with Lewis J. Grant [Principal of Cyprus College, Nicosia, Cyprus]. Mostly on education, including the state of English teaching in Cyprus and Lloyd's desire for more Muslim children to be educated. Includes Grant's suggestions for and plan of a British Institute in Cyprus, and a memorandum entitled 'English Language and English Culture in Cyprus'. Also includes political news and comment, including: Grant's reaction to the appointment of a new governor, translations of statements in the local press responding to German claims that Cypriots were pressing for union with Greece, and Grant's thoughts concerning the government's attitude towards Cypriot Turks.

On subjects including: Dundas' tour of the Middle East; relations between the Anglo-Egyptian Union, Cairo, the British Council and the proposed Anglo-Egyptian Union in Alexandria; British Council affairs in Athens; educational establishments; inauguration of a British Institute in Nicosia [Cyprus], and possibility of an Institute at Assiut [Asyut, Egypt]. Includes letter by Dundas reporting on the extent of German propaganda in Iraq. Also includes a small number of letters to Mrs Dundas, and correspondence with Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Bernard Reilly [Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Aden] concerning Dundas' proposed visit to Yemen, and letters of introduction by Lloyd on Dundas' behalf.

Also contains minutes of meeting Lloyd's room to discuss possibilities of propaganda in Muslim countries, and transcript of conversation with Spanish editors.

With correspondents including: the Egyptian Ambassador to the UK [Hassan Nashaat]; Leo Amery; Viscount Halifax [Edward Wood, earlier Lord Irwin, later 1st Earl of Halifax], and 'Hopie' [Victor Hope, 2nd Marquess of Linlithgow, Viceroy of India]. Includes correspondence with William Gibson of the estate agents Knight, Frank and Rutley, concerning potential sites for the mosque. Also includes: letter to Halifax reporting a conversation between Lloyd and Chamberlain on the subject; a memorandum putting the case for a mosque to the Prime Minister [drafted when Neville Chamberlain in office, but sent when Winston Churchill in office] and Chancellor of the Exchequer [Sir Kingsley Wood], and opinions by men consulted as experts.
