A detailed history of the Government's attitude to and activity on wages policy, based on Ministerial and Treasury files prepared within the Treasury as a reference work. It covers not only Government policy but also the major industrial disputes over wages. Part 1 covers the Wartime background and the Labour Government of 1945-51. Part 2 covers the Conservative Governments from 1951 to March 1956 and the White Paper on "The economic implications of full employment" (Cmd 9725). Part 3 covers 1956-60 and the Chancellorships of Harold Macmillan, Peter Thorneycroft and Derick Heathcoat-Amory.
