The Papers of Leopold Amery

Title Public and Political
Reference AMEL 1
Covering Dates 1881–1962
Extent and Medium 117 archive boxes
Content and context

This series spans LSA's career, including: his early letters as a war correspondent with the Times in South Africa; material from his varied military and political service in the First World War; ministerial papers as First Lord of the Admiralty, then Secretary of State for the Colonies; papers from a wider range of subjects while LSA was out of office in the 1930's; Cabinet papers and India Office papers while LSA was Secretary of State for India in the Second World War; and finally the non-ministerial wartime papers and more material reflecting LSA's lifelong concern for the Empire and economic matters.

As there was no particular original arrangement in this class, the papers have been broadly arranged by date, and split into separate sub-classes which reflect the different stages of LSA's career.
