Austen Harry Albu was born in London on 21 September 1903, the son of Ferdinand and Beatrice Albu. In 1929 he married Rose Marks with whom he had 2 sons. Rose died in 1956 and Albu married Dr Marie Jahoda in 1958. Albu was educated at Tonbridge School then at the City and Guilds College. His positions included: Works Manager at Aladdin Industries in Greenford (1930-46); Deputy President of the Governmental Sub-Commission of the Control Commission in Germany (1946-7); Deputy Director of the British Institute of Management (1948); Labour Member of Parliament for Edmonton (1948-74); Minister of State at the Department of Economic Affairs (1965-7) and Fellow of Imperial College of Science and Technology. Albu died on November 23 1994.
The collection comprises pamphlets, papers and correspondence relating to a wide range of subjects including: the Labour party; Germany after the Second World War; the Spanish Civil War; education, economic affairs, industry and employment in the United Kingdom.
