A sheet containing three items in French in Parkes' hand: a copy of a telegram from 'Sylvestre', Hanoi, to 'Gouverneur Saigon' (Charles Thomson?), 13 February 1885; a copy of a message from Louis Brière de l'Isle, Langson, to an unidentified recipient, 13 February [1885], apparently transmitted as a telegram (to Thomson?) from Hanoi, 15 February 1885, and a note concerning Enomoto Takeaki in Peking (possibly copied from a further telegram). There is also a cutting from the 'Daily Press', Hong Kong, 17 February 1885, including telegrams and editorial commentary concerning military operations in Tongking. 2 folios. |

'Estimate of Railways For H[is] E[xcellency] Li Hung Chang': an estimate given in taels per English mile for constructing a single track railway line, including calculations for the cost of lines between Tientsin and Peking or Tungchew [T'ung-chou], and between Tientsin and Taku, undated (1880s?).
