There is also a second sheet containing copies of a request for protection for Simon (in Chinese), addressed by the French Consulate in Shanghai to the Emperor of China, 1860, and a petition (in Chinese) addressed by Simon to the officials of the Emperor of China concerning his purposes in China. The first sheet is labelled at the top 'M. Simon's Papers'.
