An undated memorandum (in French) in Parkes' hand concerning the government of Japan, referring in particular to the distinction between the Shogun and the Emperor. It begins: 'C'est une erreur genéralement répandu parmi nous qu'il existe au Japon deux Empereurs l'un ecclesiastique, l'autre civil.' The document is undated, but the paper is watermarked 1854.
