1 Memorandum on civil service superannuation. A printed memorandum entitled 'Civil Service Superannuation', drawn up 'For the information of the General Committee', summarising a conversation held on 10 December 1855 between the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir George Cornewall Lewis) and Richard Bromley, William Farr and W. Willis, followed by a note by Bromley of 19 December 1855.

A manuscript memorandum, probably by Francis Adams, concerning continuing expenses incurred by the author and Algernon Mitford in Yedo, and referring to the pay and expenses of student interpreters and merchants' clerks, dated Yedo, and labelled on the back in Parkes' hand 'Adams Report. Cost of Living'.

6 Circular letter from Earl of Clarendon. A copy of a circular letter from the Foreign Office to Her Majesty's consuls in China, the vice-consuls at Taku and Tamsui, the consuls in Japan, and the vice-consul at Yedo, 11 February 1870. The handwriting is identical to that of Parkes 16/6.

A copy of a letter from Edward Stanley, Earl of Derby, Foreign Office, to Parkes, 8 April 1874, 1 bifolio, with a folio containing 'Tables showing how long the Interpreters in China served before obtaining that rank' and a table entitled 'Japan Service. Dates of entry into Service, & of becoming Assistants & of receiving Interpreter's Allowance', undated (1877 or later), and a bifolio, probably used as a folder, labelled in Parkes' hand 'Estimates. Establishment'.
