Manuscripts/MS Parkes 25 contains:
1 Memorandum of conference on merchant consuls in Japan. A memorandum (in French) in Parkes' hand of a conference between 'le Chargé d'affaires du Roi', 'le Ministre Higashi Kuzé Chiyo' and 'le Hanji [judge] Yamagutchi' held on 25 August 1868, concerning the admission of merchant consuls to Japan. The document is labelled at the top 'Communicated by M. von Brandt to Sir H. Parkes. Aug. 31. 1868.'.

2 Report on consular representation in Japan. A copy of a report (in French) from Lieutenant Dubousquet to Léon Roches concerning a discussion between Dubousquet, Higashi-Kouzé [Higashi Kuzé Chiyo] and Terashima (Munenori?) regarding consular representation in Japan, dated Yokohama, 26 August 1868. The document is labelled 'Communicated by Monsr. Outrey' [Ange Maxime Outrey, French diplomat].

3 Memorandum on precedence in the consular corps. A copy of a memorandum (in Japanese) from Nomura Yasushi concerning the order of precedence of consular corps, dated Yokohama, 15 April 1879, 1 folio, possibly addressed to Martin Dohmen. There is also an English translation, 1 bifolio, including annotations in Parkes' hand, and labelled 'Copy. Translation. Yokohama, April 15. 1879. Inclosure in Kenrei's letter of April 15. 1879 to Mr Acting Consul Dohmen'.

4 Memorandum on ranks of diplomatic agents. An undated memorandum (in French) concerning the relative ranks of diplomatic agents, referring in particular to proceedings in Egypt and Constantinople during 1877-1878.
