| Content and context |
A wide range of photographs from (predominantly) China and Hong Kong dating mainly from the 1920s and 1930s. The series includes photographs of directors, staff and associates of Jardine, Matheson & Co.; buildings, offices and ships in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tientsin and Tsingtao, mostly belonging to the company; and various social events. Many of the photographs date from the Sino-Japanese conflict in 1937 and reflect the impact of the fighting on Shanghai and other cities. |
