Title Agreement and plans re the Jardine estate
Reference MS JM/L7/1/2/5
Covering Dates 1925 (copies of originals of 1922)
Extent and Medium 1 envelope
Content and context

A typescript copy of an agreement between the Hankow Race Club & Recreation Ground; Jardine, Matheson & Co. Ltd; Arthur Vivian Perry, solicitor, and William Edwards Harston, broker ('the Trustees'); and the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation and Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China, 17 August 1922, for the exchange of land between the Race Club and Jardine, Matheson & Co. in an area of Hankow and for grants of rights of way. The agreement is accompanied by three numbered plans of the area by J.H. Moser, architect and civil engineer, Hankow, which are referenced in the document. The last plan is labelled as a copy made by Stewardson, Spence & Watson in May 1925.

Further information

The envelope for the documents includes the note 'attached to letter from J.F. Owen, Hankow, 26/5/25 to A. Brooke Smith, Shanghai (Shanghai File No. 416 29/5/25)'. No. 416 probably refers to semi-official letter no. 416 from A.B. Smith, Shanghai, to David Landale, London, 28 May 1925, found in J1/26/5, p. 71.

L7/1/2/4a and L7/1/2/4b are earlier copies.
